N C director tries to get “On the Lot”
by Chris Wells

Wilmington, North Carolina filmmaker Braxton Honeycutt is trying to win a spot on the new show, On the Lot. The show is the American Idol equivalent to the filmmaking world. Instead of singing for insults, the contest allows up and coming filmmakers to make a five minute short film. “Most people will probably send in clips of some movie or film project that they made year’s ago.” say Honeycutt. “But I made my film from the prospective of what if I won? Complete with the girls, money and cars. I figured coming at it that way would give me a better chance of winning.” he states. “I essentially did a spoof of myself.” His idea worked. Braxton has made it past the first cut. His short film is featured on this show’s website ( http://films.thelot.com/films/9843). The more votes the filmmaker’s receive increases the chance of them making it to the next level. The winner will receive 1,000,000 dollars as top prize and a huge foot into the door of Hollywood. With around four or five movies in production in Wilmington as I write this, it seems that Braxton may be in the right place at the right time. Heck, American Idol has helped three NC natives find stardom. Maybe On the Lot can provide the same stroke of luck for Honeycutt. We will keep you posted as to his progress.
