"Jonas Sees In Color is a strong edgy rock band with a soft melodic feel. The juxtaposition creates an awesome sound that is as unique as it is familiar. I am stoked to work with the band and I think Ryan {Downing} has a great voice… plus there’s six of them, so you know... that’s cool.” – Aaron Johnson
GREENSBORO, NC (February 13, 2008) – Glassnote Records is proud to announce that Greensboro, NC rock band JONAS SEES IN COLOR has just signed to the label. The band has enlisted multi-platinum record producer Aaron Johnson, who worked on both The Fray’s How To Save A Life and their self titled sophomore album (which is currently #1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart), to record their debut at The Fray’s personal studio in Denver next month.
“We're incredibly excited to be signing with Glassnote and we have been lucky enough to find the support of a label that shares our vision,” exclaims lead vocalist Ryan Downing. “We're ready to get into the studio and record. It seems like most of the stuff being released right now is stale and insincere. It's like candy: sweet and tasty for a minute, but it's just a bunch of empty calories...and we're ready to put out a record with an authentic sound and purpose.”
Jonas Sees In Color formed in 2005 and solidified the sextet in 2007. With a number of regional shows under its belt, the band self-released a six-song EP and hit the road in support of Avalanche. The 1,000 copies quickly sold-out while touring the East Coast, South and Midwest, and opening gigs for scene veterans like Taking Back Sunday, The Almost, The Starting Line, Hot Rod Circuit, Cartel, and peers on the rise such as Envy On The Coast, Forever The Sickest Kids, The Color Fred and The Audition, to name a few.
The band takes its name from Lois Lowry’s 1993 Newbery Award winning children’s book, The Giver.
"Our name is basically a metaphor,” explains Downing. “In The Giver, the main character (Jonas) lives in a black and white world. When he is chosen to take on the responsibility of the hopes, thoughts, and feelings of his entire village, he finally begins to see in color. One of the most important goals of our music is to create a connection with the listener by accurately connecting the stories and ideas contained in our music in a way that allows the listener to take and interpret the songs as their own. This way, the listener is just as important as the artist. After all, music doesn't mean much if no one is listening to it. If a band plays in the woods...”
Jonas Sees In Color is Downing, keyboardist Megan Plumber, guitarists Jonathan Owens and Jonathan Albright, bassist Michael Deming, and drummer John Chester.
