BRAWL
Boone had its' taste of "Toughest and Baddest" on the 23rd and 24th of February when the Toughest and Baddest BRAWL came to town to crown the areas best brawler. It was the first time this event graced the Boone turf and it was a huge success. This event was sponsored by Hines Promotions, Inc. out of China Grove, N.C. and was strictly amature. It is sanctioned by the appropriate state regulatory agency so no professional boxers or kickboxers were allowed. Just amateurs. This was a great show that everyone has to see at least one time. Really, one time. This event drew plenty of locals and the first night was really entertaining. It actually sold out. The second night was the best. When you hear the "thwap" of the gloves you know someone got hit hard and you really know it when they go limp and fall over like a lifeless tree being cut down. There were a couple of those hard hits that brought the crowd to its feet. It was awesome! There are also the one's who have no way of continuing but do find the bucket. Yep, there were a couple of those and just the visual of it might have sent you to the bathroom. If you like the sight of blood, well there wasn't as much of that but one fighter did have quite the red face. He did finish the match. That's tough.
I have seen some great fighting events on the pro set but this is actually a fun one to go to because it is so unpredictable. Some of these fighters come out fists a flying a hundred miles and hour in the hopes to connect and finish it real fast. It didn't happen every-time but there were a few who found "lights out" in the first round. Most were so wound up that when the finally stopped spinning they had no momentum, no power and no fuel. That's when the boos came out. One exception, the Championship Match of the heavyweights. They had to be helped up because they were so tired and the crowd was going ballistic. It was a hard hitting, never ending fight that looked like it came straight out of your backyard. Others were pretty good and actually fought a 3 solid rounds beating the "you know what" out of each other but those fights just missed the extreme crowd noise of the final bout.
Now as I looked at a t-shirt they sell it asks two questions. First, "Who's the toughest and the baddest man in the brawl?" and second "You got what it takes?". I have an answer to both questions. Obviously it is the one who wins it in the end who can claim that title but I have to give it to all who had the guts to participate in front of a rowdy crowd. Win or lose those fighters thought they had what it takes. Now, say what you want but if you were in the crowd you didn't have what it took on that night. I didn't. If you need to prove it to yourself or somebody else it will come around again in the future and I wish you luck.
If you want to enter this event or just go to one, go to their website at www.tuffbadbrawl.com and try your luck. All the rules are there and a schedule. I think you will be surprised as to how professional this event really is and love it.
